What is Melatonin?
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body that triggers sleep and improves overall sleep quality.
Are Melatonin supplements safe to use?
Melatonin is a hormone – use it only as needed, rather than on a regular basis.
Taking small to moderate doses of melatonin from supplements does not appear to reduce the body's own production of melatonin and are safe to use.
When to take Melatonin?
It's best to take Melatonin half an hour to an hour before bedtime to help you fall asleep.
Can Melatonin help prevent COVID-19?
Melatonin has also been noted for its anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory, and antioxidant properties.
A study of patients tested for COVID-19 found that those who reported taking Melatonin were less likely to test positive for the disease, but this does not prove that taking melatonin supplements can prevent COVID-19.
Preliminary studies have also suggested that Melatonin may improve survival rate and shortened the duration of hospitalization in people with mild to moderate COVID-19. Melatonin may also indirectly cause fewer ACE2 receptors to be available for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus to attach to cells in the body.
In addition to being used as a sleep aid, Melatonin can also be used as a potent drug that impairs the complications of COVID-19.
